A well-marked car park keeps traffic flowing safely, makes the best use of the space available, and is often the first thing visitors see when they arrive. If your lines are faded, your layout no longer fits how the site is used, or you are adding new features such as EV charge points, a re-marking is worth planning carefully. Here is what we recommend sorting out before any paint or thermoplastic is laid.
Start with the layout, not the lines. Think about how many bays you actually need, and which types: standard bays, disabled bays, parent and child bays, visitor parking, and increasingly EV charging bays. Hatching and no-parking zones keep access routes, fire exits and pedestrian routes clear. Direction arrows, speed roundels and bay numbering keep traffic moving in the right direction. If you are unsure, our Design and Consultation service is free of charge when you place an order, and our staff each bring 20+ years of experience maximising space without causing bottlenecks.
Deal with old markings first. If a layout is changing, old lines can be just as confusing as no lines at all. We remove unwanted thermoplastic, paint and resin markings and prepare the surface properly before re-marking, which is the key to new lines that stay bright and bonded for years. New lines should never be laid over failed or flaking material.
Choose the right material. Thermoplastic is hard-wearing and can be laid with glass beads for extra night-time reflectivity, which is very useful on sites with little or no lighting. Epoxy resin requires no heating, making it ideal in places where open flames are undesirable, and comes in many bright colours for internal floors and walkways.
Plan the timing around your site. Car parks are usually re-marked out of hours, and we work days, evenings, nights and weekends to keep disruption to a minimum. We also use chalk for temporary marking during planning, because it washes away easily - useful while a layout is being agreed or an event is on.
